We found the lives of the children incredibly sad and their family life and living conditions were described by one member as seedy and grimy but that could be true of the time they were being raised, post WW1. It soon becomes Margaret's job to unravel the secrets of Mrs Walker's life and try find any relatives before she is given a paupers funeral. The murder rocks their tiny coastal island, but no one is more shaken than Sadie, who is terrified by the thought of a killer in her very own backyard. The premise of this novel was good, yet the execution of it was so bad. Margaret Penny, the protagonist of this book, is a very dysfunctional person. The Other Mrs Walker' by Mary Paulson-Ellis is a wonderful mystery following a two families of women as their histories are gradually revealed to be entangled in surprising ways. //
